Grand Knights’ Report

Brothers, I hope everyone is doing well and I would like to thank the Brothers who attended our council meeting in May.
I would like to congratulate Brother David J. Horvath Jr. for making his 1st Degree before our council meeting last month joining our Order and our Council.
I would like to thank the Brother Knights who leaded the Rosary before all the Masses in May.
I want to give a special Thank You to the Brother Knights, their families and friends, and the teachers who helped out on our Operation LAMB program at the Walmart in Zebulon. We collected $2050.00!!!
Thank you to PGK Tom Beneck who did an outstanding job managing the shift changes and counting of the money and to Brother John Broderick who did the work on getting us the store in Zebulon to do Op LAMB.
DGK Steve Allen and myself attended the KofC State Convention in Durham last month. We all congratulate the new State Officers especially Brother John Nussbaum as our new State Advocate and Brother Dan Lange as our new State Warden.
At the convention our council won Fraternity Council Award, Membership Award for 150% & above quota, and the Duane Russell Newsletter Award First Place.
We are also eligible for Star Council Award.
Our council will have our Council Picnic at the rectory on June 18th after the 5:00pm Mass. Please bring a side dish, drinks, or dessert if you plan to attend.
Our council is selling raffle tickets after all the Masses for our 4th of July Basket of Cheer raffle fundraiser. Any Brother Knight that would like to donate items for this basket, please bring the items to the June council meeting or leave the items at the parish office. The drawing for the winners name will be July 3rd after the 10:30am Mass.
Our Installation of Council Officers date is set for July 27th at 6:30pm at the church with dinner following at Fargo’s Restaurant in Zebulon. All new council officers please plan to attend this council event.
Please come dressed nice, (suit & tie if you can) and wear your council name badge. Family and friends are welcome.
Our fraternal year 2010 – 2011 is soon coming to a close. It has been a privilege and I have enjoyed serving as your Council Grand Knight. I ask that all Brother Knights please give our new Grand Knight, Steve Allen, the same help and support that you gave me. With this, I would like to congratulate
DGK Steve Allen as our Knight of the Month for June. Steve has done a very outstanding job helping and assisting me on planning and scheduling council activities and events, working with council directors on activities and events, putting together meeting agendas and sign up lists, helping to pick Knight and Family of months, filling out reports, always helping with Operation LAMB, the list goes on! Steve has always been a phone call away when I needed advice or help. Great job Steve!
Our Family of the Month for June goes to PGK Steve Sledge and his wife Diane. Brother Steve and his family always help stand shifts on our Operation LAMB program. In our most recent Op LAMB, Steve brought his daughter, Sarah, who is in a wheelchair, and his son, Michael, who is one of our Parish Alter Servers. Brother Steve also recruited a friend, Paula DeLong, who likes to help the Knights with Op LAMB. Steve is also involved in many church activities. Steve is the Trainer for Church Lectors, Family Life Committee Director, member of the Pastoral Advisory Council, and a Church Usher.
Thanks Steve!

 Deputy Grand Knights’ Report

Brothers, it was a busy month of May and we have much more to accomplish before our fraternal year ends. I would like to Congratulate GK Norman Malisos on getting the State Best News Letter of the year Award. Brother Norman has done a remarkable job as the newsletter editor over the years and his hard work has paid off.
I want to thank the brother Knights who led the Rosary during the month of May and also all those Brother Knights who filled a shift during OP LAMB. Your hard work was well worth the effort.
Just a word to let you know we have our 4th of July Basket of Cheer so please help with the selling of tickets after all the Masses and make this fundraiser a success.
Brothers, I still have a few Director Positions to fill for next year so please consider taking one of them.
Brothers, please plan to attend the meeting this Wednesday, 6-8-11 at 8:00PM. We will have the 2011-2012 Budget and Agenda. If you see or know any Brother Knight please remind them of the Council meeting. Thank you for your continued support.
As our fraternal year ends it has been a privilege serving as Deputy Grand Knight and I am looking forward to being Grand Knight next year.
Thank you all for your continued dedication to Our Priests and the Faith community of St. Eugene’s.
Vivat Jesus

       $2050.00              Operation LAMB

Let me first say, for me 32 round trips, 224 miles, 36 hours, over 600 hours from the team below, and this is the result of the hard work and dedication that you all provided to make this possible.  Thank you to all who made this happen. Also, please take back to your families my heartfelt appreciation for allowing you to give of your time to make our first collection effort for 2011 a huge success.  We have exceeded last year’s total by $500 and we are just getting started.  We are well on our way to making this a banner year. If you think of it, while shopping at WalMart in Zebulon ask for the manager and say thanks for allowing us to collect at their store.  For those planning in the future, I do anticipate at least three additional collection weekends this year. For two of them the dates and locations will be – October 15 and 16 at WalMart in Zebulon and November 19 and 20 at Food Lion in Knightdale. More to come on the other date, I am planning for some time during the summer at Food Lion in Knightdale. Please start looking at your calendars now and block some time off to assist with this worthy cause. The time slots will be similar to what we did this past weekend; 9 to noon, noon to 3, and 3 to 5 or 6.  We had a great start, but we cannot ride on our success, we need to keep moving forward.  In speaking with the teachers this weekend, and I can’t believe I am writing this, their budgets are being cut even further, I fear soon they will be teaching in the school yard drawing lessons in the dirt with sticks! Some have even told me we are the only ones doing anything to help them! Even more reason why we do what we do!
So thanks to and if I omitted you I assure you it was not on purpose.
John Broderick for doing what was necessary for securing the site.

Dear Brother Knights,

During the month of May I read the book on the life of Fr. Michael McGivney, founder of the Knights of Columbus. It was a book that inspired me much for my priestly ministry here at St. Eugene.

I wish all of you a very safe and pleasant summer with hopefully some time for vacation with your family.

I thank the outgoing officers for their dedicated services and welcome the new officers.

We will celebrate the important feast of Pentecost during the month of June and there let us pray often to the Holy Spirit.

Loving God,
Open our hearts to receive the Spirit's flame of love.
May it come to rest in our hearts and disperse the divisions of word and tongue.
Let the Spirit you sent on the Apostles and your Church to teach the Gospel, continue to work in the world through the hearts of all your faithful.
Send your Spirit into our lives, our families and our communities with the love for our hearts and your wisdom for our minds to make us every day better witnesses of Christ in the world.
Amen

HAPPY PENTECOST!
Fr. Joseph Lapauw, C.I.C.M.
Chaplain
